Esquire Interiors carries solid wood floors and engineered wood flooring. Each option adds rich color and a warm, elegant style to any room.

Solid wood or engineered flooring?

Because wide-plank wood is more susceptible to warping, it is especially important to use engineered wood in sizes of 5-inch wide and up. For narrower planks, solid wood is recommended. Any wood in the world can be used as the top layer of an engineered floor.

How engineered flooring is made

Engineered wood flooring is comprised of several thin cross-ply layers that are glued together. Each layer is turned 90 degrees to the next layer, which helps prevent the cupping, gapping and shrinking you can get in solid wood during changes in humidity. Engineered wood flooring is always assembled in an odd number of layers—3, 5, 7 or 9 layers so that the layers on the top and bottom prevent shifting. The top layer of engineered flooring is the finished floor surface.
